My opinion. A confused and mixed-feeling EXOtic.
edit: this was written before I saw the news of Kris not participating in the concert.
As a member of EXO and leader of the Chinese sub-group, I don’t believe Kris would not want to participate in EXO’s first concert. Maybe I’m ignorant of what goes on in the kpop industry or SM, but if a member files a lawsuit, does that automatically mean that the member is no longer part of the group and is banned from all activities pertaining to that group? Yes, he filed a lawsuit to terminate his contract, but nothing has been discussed — does that mean he is automatically removed from or automatically leaves the group? There was news that all Kris merchandise were being withdrawn and fans who pre-paid them would get full refunds. SM removed Kris from EXO’s 1st concert promotional poster, placing Xiumin in his spot, shifting a few members around. SM released an official statement regarding the concert — only 11 members would be present.
I wish there were more information being provided regarding Kris’ lawsuit. I love all of the members of EXO, including Kris, for who they are: their personalities, their talents, their potential… I just wish there was more news being reported regarding this case so fans can know what’s really going on.
Some fans have been saying Kris is a betrayer in filing this suit and is selfish. I disagree. This is his choice. Being a singer and an idol is a job. Like any other job, an employee can decide to quit. Some people may not realize it until after stardom, but perhaps they want to pursue other dreams that they hadn’t realized were the true dreams. Nevertheless, I wish all members the best in all they do… They’re striving for success, trying to define their life, as are most of us.
